Does Copilot accept IPv6? What we measured

On 20 September 2026 we looked up copilot.microsoft.com from two public resolvers, 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8: both answer with 2 AAAA records, the first one 2606:4700::6812:16de, and both agree. Copilot was not in our September census of 102 domains, so this is the same DNS check run on its own host. The hosts behind it: www.bing.com (2 AAAA).

This is a DNS check, not a connection test: an AAAA record means an IPv6 exit can reach the host, and nothing more. What the platform serves to a given client is decided by its own rules, its rate limits per prefix and its anti-automation, which is why every page in this family says which jobs fit and which do not.

Why IPv6 proxies for Copilot

Copilot is dual-stack: copilot.microsoft.com publishes two AAAA records, and www.bing.com, whose index and answers Copilot draws on, publishes two to five. So an IPv6 exit reaches both the consumer Copilot and the search engine behind it. The job that fits IPv6 is sampling what Copilot answers, and which pages it cites, for a query from a given market without a Microsoft account — Copilot serves a limited anonymous experience, and that anonymous experience, sampled per country from a rotating exit, is the cheapest way to track AI visibility on Microsoft's side.

Everything under a Microsoft account — Copilot Pro, Copilot in Microsoft 365, Edge with a signed-in profile — is a login on a sticky residential session, and the API side (Azure OpenAI, whose regional endpoints are dual-stack on Azure Front Door) follows the same per-key logic as the other assistants: IPv6 sets egress cost and country, not the limits.

When IPv6 is the wrong network for Copilot

Anything under a Microsoft account — Copilot Pro, Copilot in Microsoft 365, a signed-in Edge profile — which is a sticky residential job within Microsoft's terms. IPv6 is for the anonymous Copilot and Bing surfaces and for agent fetches.

The same account carries the other networks: mobile proxies for Copilot (carrier IPs, sticky up to 24 hours, from $5 for 1 GB) and residential proxies for Copilot (home-ISP IPs in 200+ countries, from $1.00/GB, with a free 100 MB trial). SOCKS5 works with the same username on the SOCKS5 port (socks5h:// in Python's proxies, --socks5-hostname in curl), so the hostname is resolved at the exit — which is what you want, because the exit is the one with IPv6 connectivity. Test with https://api64.ipify.org: the answer should be an IPv6 address in the country you set.
