Product Hunt API in Python
Product Hunt leaderboard launches — name, tagline, launch score, comments, topics, URL, thumbnail. One POST from Python with the input, rows back as JSON with 24 fields, $0.001 per delivered launch. No proxies or parsers to maintain.

First call
Install, call, read the rows.
pip install requestsimport os, requests
r = requests.post(
"https://api.quanticdata.io/v1/scraper/collectors/producthunt_posts/run",
headers={"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['QD_API_KEY']}"},
json={
"period": "daily",
"date": "2026-09-01",
"max_results": 20,
},
timeout=120,
)
r.raise_for_status()
run = r.json()["payload"]
print(run["count"], "rows,", run["cost"]["usd"], "USD")
for row in run["results"]:
print(row.get("leaderboard"), row.get("id"), row.get("name"), row.get("tagline"))The key comes from an environment variable, never from the code. The run answers in the same request when it finishes in time; payload.results holds the rows and payload.cost what they cost.
Request parameters
What the collector takes.
| Parameter | Type | Required | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
period | string: daily, weekly, monthly | no (default daily) | Which leaderboard to read: the day, the ISO week or the month containing the date. |
date | string | no | Any date inside the period, as YYYY-MM-DD. Defaults to today in Product Hunt's own timezone (America/Los_Angeles), where the launch day opens at 00:01. |
max_results | integer | no (default 20) | How many launches to deliver at most (1–200). You pay only for delivered launches. |
country | string | no | ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code — proxy exit geo and Google locale (gl). Omit for the default pool. |
Response fields
24 fields per launch.
| Field | Type | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
rank | integer, nullable | Position on the requested leaderboard; null when Product Hunt states no rank for the launch. |
leaderboard | string | The leaderboard this row came from — 2026-09-01, 2026-W36 or 2026-09. |
id | string | Product Hunt launch (post) id — stable, and the de-duplication key. |
name | string | Launch name. |
tagline | string, nullable | One-line tagline. |
score | integer, nullable | The number shown on the launch's upvote button. Product Hunt states this is the current active score — votes plus discussion and overall activity — not a raw vote tally, and it keeps rising after launch day. |
score_on_launch_day | integer, nullable | The same score frozen at the end of the launch day, so two runs days apart stay comparable. |
comments | integer, nullable | Comment count on the launch. |
topics | string[], nullable | Topic names Product Hunt tagged the launch with. |
topic_slugs | string[], nullable | The same topics as URL slugs, for /topics/<slug>. |
url | string, nullable | The launch page — /products/<product_slug>?launch=<slug>, the form Product Hunt's own links use. |
product_url | string, nullable | The product's page, without the launch selected. |
thumbnail | string, nullable | Launch thumbnail on Product Hunt's image CDN. |
slug | string, nullable | Launch slug — not the same as the product slug, and not routable on its own. |
product_slug | string, nullable | Product slug, the segment that addresses the page. |
featured_at | string, nullable | When the launch was featured (ISO 8601, Product Hunt's -07:00 offset). |
created_at | string, nullable | When the launch was created (ISO 8601). |
score_hidden | boolean | Product Hunt hides the score on this launch's card; the value is still stated and delivered. |
daily_rank | integer, nullable | Rank on the launch's daily leaderboard. |
weekly_rank | integer, nullable | Rank on the launch's weekly leaderboard. |
monthly_rank | integer, nullable | Rank on the launch's monthly leaderboard. |
product_id | string, nullable | Product Hunt's id of the product the launch belongs to. |
updated_at | string, nullable | When the launch record last changed (ISO 8601). |
visit_url | string, nullable | Product Hunt's "Visit website" link for the launch — it redirects to the maker's own site. |
Add ?format=csv to the runs endpoint to get the same rows as CSV.
Long runs
Run in the background, then poll.
A run that needs more time can go to the background: send "async": true, get 202 with the run id, and poll the runs endpoint until the status is done. Reading a run is free.
import os, time, requests
H = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {os.environ['QD_API_KEY']}"}
r = requests.post("https://api.quanticdata.io/v1/scraper/collectors/producthunt_posts/run", headers=H,
json={**{"period":"daily","date":"2026-09-01","max_results":20}, "async": True}, timeout=30)
run_id = r.json()["payload"]["run_id"]
while True:
run = requests.get(f"https://api.quanticdata.io/v1/scraper/collectors/runs/{run_id}", headers=H, timeout=30).json()["payload"]
if run["status"] in ("done", "failed"):
break
time.sleep(5)
print(run["status"], run["count"])Errors
What can come back, and what is billed.
| Status | Meaning | Billed |
|---|---|---|
400 | The input does not match the collector (payload.errors) | No |
401 | Missing or wrong API key | No |
402 | Balance and free credit do not cover the run: top up | No |
422 | The input can never resolve; retrying the same input cannot help | No |
424 | The run failed at the source (blocked, timed out, layout changed); safe to retry | No |
429 | Rate limit or a per-account brake; wait for Retry-After | No |
Only delivered rows are billed: a run that delivers nothing costs nothing.
Price
$0.001 per delivered launch.
| Rows | Cost |
|---|---|
| 1 | $0.001 |
| 1,000 | $1.00 |
| 10,000 | $10.00 |
Up to 200 launches per run; split larger jobs into several runs. The $2 free credit every month covers about 2,000 launches. No subscription; paid tiers lower the unit price. All collector prices: collector pricing.
Before you run it
Questions developers ask
Is there a free Product Hunt launches API?
Every account gets $2 of free usage each month, about 2,000 launches of this collector at $0.001 each, with no card.
Do I have to handle proxies, retries or blocks?
No. The collector runs on our network and handles them; a run blocked at the source returns 424 and is not billed.
How many rows can one run return?
Up to 200 launches per run (the max_results input, where the collector has one).
Can an AI agent run it?
Yes: the MCP server exposes it as the run_collector tool, with the same input and price. See the MCP server.
Run it on the free credit.
Create an API key, export it as QD_API_KEY and run the example. $0.001 per delivered launch, no subscription.
